Vision Series 2017: We kick off our annual vision series with a teaching on the heartbeat of our church: the idea that the way of Jesus is just that, a way of life. And one that takes practice, and community.

Fasting

From the series, "Gospel of Matthew." For many of us, when it comes to fasting, our belief system can be distorted by subtle misconceptions. That in some way we get to control God by how we treat our body. Or, simply confusing it with the practice of abstinence. But just like prayer and giving to the poor, fasting can unlock a greater intimacy with the heart of God and welcome a deeper connection with the Father.

Prayer

From the series, "Gospel of Matthew." Our heavenly Father knows our needs before we ask. Understanding the gravity of this truth can make or break our chance at a healthy motivation for prayer. In Matthew 6, Jesus calls us out of a religious routine and into a beautiful exchange of genuine love for God and others.

In our final interview we talk with pastor and author Bruxy Cavey about anabaptism, Christians killing other Christians in the name of their “Christian” nation, the 16th century persecution of non-violent followers of Jesus, and a pastoral word to those wrestling with Jesus’ teachings on enemy love. Are there things that government should do that followers of Jesus should not? Listen along all this week as we interview various theologians and experts on the subject of non-violence and enemy love, in order to work out some of the implications of Jesus' teaching in Matthew 5.
